When Online Notepad is Perfect

Using a shared or public computer where you cannot install apps. You need a quick scratchpad and opening a full word processor feels like overkill. Drafting text before pasting it elsewhere — editing a long email or social media post before copying. Taking quick meeting notes when you are already in a browser. Pasting and editing text you copied from somewhere — removing formatting, editing before use.

Auto-Save to Browser

Your notes automatically save to your browser's local storage as you type. Close the tab and reopen it — your notes are still there. Switch to another tab and come back — still there. The notes persist until you clear them or clear your browser data. This is different from cloud storage — your notes are stored on your device, not on any server.

This local storage approach means your notes are completely private. Nobody else can access them. But it also means they are device-specific — notes you type on your laptop will not appear on your phone. For cross-device notes, you would need a dedicated notes app with sync.

Markdown Support

Our notepad supports basic Markdown formatting, making it useful for writing structured content. Markdown is a lightweight markup language that converts to formatted text. Heading 1 is created with # Your Title. Bold text uses your bold text. Italic uses *your italic text*. Lists use - item one on each line. This makes the notepad useful for drafting blog posts, documentation or structured notes with proper formatting.

Downloading Your Notes

When you want to keep your notes permanently or transfer them to another device, download them as a .txt file (plain text) or .md file (Markdown). These files open in any text editor on any device. Plain text is universally compatible. Markdown files are best viewed in apps that render Markdown formatting.

Privacy

All your notes stay in your browser's local storage. No data is sent to any server. No account is created. Your writing is entirely private. Clearing browser data will remove saved notes — if you have important content, download it before clearing browser data.
