About This Tool

Large PDF documents often contain distinct sections that are better as separate files. A 200-page annual report where each department wants only their section. A contract where client and lawyer each need specific pages. A scanned book where chapters should be individual files. Our PDF Splitter gives you flexible control over exactly how to divide any PDF.

Three Ways to Split a PDF

Split every page: Creates one separate PDF for each page. Useful when each page is a standalone document — individual invoices scanned together, separate photographs, one-page certificates. Every page becomes its own downloadable file.

Split every N pages: Divides the document into equal chunks of a specified number of pages. A 60-page document split every 10 pages creates six 10-page files. Useful for dividing reports into manageable sections or distributing reading material in chunks.

Custom page ranges: The most flexible option. Specify exactly which pages go into which output file — pages 1-15 become file one, pages 16-40 become file two, pages 41-60 become file three. Perfect for extracting specific chapters, sections or content areas from a larger document.

Common Use Cases

Extracting specific pages from a research paper, textbook or report. Splitting a scanned multi-page document into individual records. Breaking a large PDF into email-sized attachments (many email services have attachment limits). Separating a combined PDF of multiple documents back into its components. Extracting a single chapter from an ebook for sharing.

Using Split and Merge Together

Our Split and Merge tools work powerfully in combination. Extract specific pages from multiple documents using Split, then combine selected pages into a new document using Merge. This lets you essentially rearrange and select pages from multiple sources into custom-compiled PDF documents.

Privacy

All splitting happens locally in your browser using PDF-lib. Your PDF files never leave your device — no server uploads, no third-party access to your documents. This is especially important for legal documents, financial records and confidential business materials.
