About This Tool

QR codes have gone from a niche developer tool to an everyday essential. You see them on restaurant menus, business cards, product packaging, event tickets, shop windows and payment terminals. Creating a QR code used to require special software or a paid subscription. With ToolsMagnet, you can generate professional QR codes in seconds — completely free.

What Can You Encode in a QR Code?

A QR code can store any text-based data. The most common uses are website URLs, but that is just the beginning. You can encode phone numbers (scanning opens the phone dialler), email addresses (scanning opens a compose window), plain text (scanning displays the text), Wi-Fi credentials (scanning connects to a network automatically), SMS messages, geographic coordinates and contact information in vCard format.

QR Codes for Business

For small businesses and entrepreneurs in India, QR codes have become indispensable. UPI payment QR codes on shop counters allow instant cashless payments. Restaurant menus encoded as QR codes reduce printing costs and make menu updates instant. Business cards with QR codes linking to LinkedIn profiles or personal websites create a memorable impression.

Product packaging QR codes can link to product demos, user manuals, warranty registration pages or customer review forms. Event organisers use QR codes for digital tickets that can be scanned at entry. Real estate agents put QR codes on property signs to link directly to virtual tours and property details.

QR Code Size Guidelines

The size of your QR code matters for scannability. For business cards and small prints, 200-300px (or 2-3 cm in print) is sufficient. For posters and banners, use 400-500px minimum. For billboards or large format printing, 600px or higher is recommended. Our size slider goes up to 512px for digital use — for large print, download at maximum size and scale up in design software.

QR Code Error Correction

QR codes are designed to be readable even when partially damaged or obscured. The QR standard includes built-in error correction at four levels. Our generator uses a standard error correction level that balances data capacity with damage resistance — your QR code will still scan even if up to 15% of it is covered or damaged.

Best Practices for QR Code Design

Always test your QR code by scanning it with your phone before printing thousands of copies. Leave adequate white space (quiet zone) around the QR code — at least the width of 4 QR modules. Ensure sufficient contrast between the QR code and background — dark code on light background works best. Avoid distorting or stretching QR codes — they must remain square.

Our QR code generator is completely free, requires no sign-up and processes everything in your browser using the QR Server API. Generated QR codes are delivered as clean PNG files ready for any use case.

Frequently Asked Questions

A standard QR code can hold up to 3,000 alphanumeric characters or about 7,000 numbers. For URLs, keep them short — use a URL shortener if needed. Longer data makes the QR code denser and harder to scan.
