Lap Times — Recording Splits

The lap feature records a timestamp each time you click Lap without stopping the main timer. This creates split times showing how long each segment took. For running, lap times show each kilometer split. For cooking, laps mark when each stage changed. For presentations, laps mark when you moved to each section.

Precision and Accuracy

Our stopwatch uses the browser performance API for timing, which provides millisecond precision. For casual timing like workouts, cooking and games, this precision far exceeds what you need. For scientific measurement, note that browser timing has occasional minor inconsistencies — for high-precision scientific measurement, use dedicated laboratory equipment.

Running in Background

The timer continues running when you switch browser tabs on desktop. On mobile, putting your device to sleep may pause the timer if the browser suspends background JavaScript. For mobile timing, keep the screen active. On desktop, the timer runs reliably while the browser is open regardless of which tab is active.
